To assist in the delivery of Driver training (at Highway Code level) across Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, the Training Academy are looking to recruit Driver Training Casual Academy Instructors.
Applications are invited from candidates who can offer casual ad-hoc, flexible hours of work through a Casual Agreement.
Due to the costs associated with developing new instructors the availability of candidates will be considered within the selection process. A commitment is necessary by individuals to maintain competence as an instructor once qualified.
Successful applicants will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues within the Academy and other specialist staff, as necessary, to ensure all Service training needs and standards are met. There will be a requirement to champion health and safety, diversity, and inclusion, and actively demonstrate our core values and ethics.

As a casual Driver Trainer you will deliver driver training at Highway Code level; facilitating consistent and effective learning that meets defined objectives and ensures valid and reliable assessment standards in line with Authorised Professional Practice and National Occupational standards.
You will have sole responsibility for the supervision and administration of course participants, ensuring compliance with relevant and up to date Risk Assessments, Health and Safety requirements and meeting welfare needs.
You will provide training and coaching for various types of vehicles including Light vehicles, trailers and LGV based on qualifications including out of vehicle training carried out in all weather conditions.
You will undertake driving assessments for large goods vehicles and cars based on qualifications at Highway Code levels, produce evidence portfolios in accordance with National Occupational Standards and CFOA national guidelines and provide development plans where required.
Our Driver Trainers will provide training and coaching for licence acquisition and recruit driver training of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service personnel, demonstrating resilience and sensitivity in dealing with difficult conversations, such as pass/fail decisions and welfare matters.
Eligibility criteria:
Essential qualifications
DSA ADI Registered or working towards
PTTLs or equivalent
FPOS Certificate or equivalent first aid at work
Desirable qualifications
Police standard driving qualification.
Successful candidates will be required to pass an LGV and standard medical assessment to maintain in-date currently of required driving qualifications.
