Crew Manager Transfer Process – West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

We are running a Crew Manager transfer process to fill immediate and future vacancies at our Day Crewed stations in Burgess Hill, East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Shoreham.

Our Day Crewed stations are conditioned to a Flexible Rostering Shift System. Colleagues are contracted to work either 151 or 154 12-hour shifts per year, depending on eligibility to receive long service leave. Shifts start at 07:00hrs and finish at 19:00hrs.

To be eligible to apply for you must be employed by a Local Authority Fire & Rescue Service and be a substantive and competent wholetime Crew Manager who has demonstrated competence against the requirements of the NFCC Crew Manager role map. You must also hold a UK driving licence and in date SFJ Initial Incident Command Level 1 qualification.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Key Skills:
Ability to lead in an inclusive and support manner to ensure effective teamwork in both operational and non-operational activities.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Effective time management skills.
Ability to plan, manage resources and problem solve.
Ability to use questioning and analytical skills in order to conduct inspections and investigations.

Qualifications:
Essential at time of application
Substantive and competent wholetime Crew Manager who has demonstrated competence against the requirements of the NJC Crew Manager role map.
Current full UK driving licence (unless you have a valid reason which prohibits you form driving)
SFJ Initial Incident Command Level 1

Desirable
ILM L3 Diploma in Leadership and Management or equivalent qualification/training
Assessor qualification
First Aid/IEC qualified
Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTLLS) or equivalent
IFE membership
If the following qualifications are not currently held, they must be successfully undertaken within 3 months of taking up the role:
IOSH Supervising Safely

Experience:
Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to the core values and the national fire and rescue service leadership framework.
A working knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Legislation and its application to the Fire and Rescue Service.
Experience of forming positive and strong relationships with partners.
Experience of applying relevant information to make appropriate decisions and create practical solutions.
Evidence of continued professional development.

Salary: Crew Manager competent £41,767
