Database Administrator – Humberside Fire and Rescue Service

No two days are the same at Humberside Fire and Rescue. From troubleshooting database performance in the morning to designing SQL queries in the afternoon, adaptability, and the ability to prioritise tasks based on business needs are crucial.

The Digital Services Team comprises of Innovation, Solutions and Assurance departments, this role is in the Digital Innovation Team and highlighted green below.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate any of the skills below.

Current skills

  1. SQL Server Database Support including performance tuning, index management, disaster recovery and issue resolution. Querying and extracting data, formulating stored procedures, cursors, and functions in a range of SQL databases using T-SQL. (All HFRS databases are Microsoft SQL Server hosted in Azure)
  2. Comfortable creating ETLs scripts for automation of processes. (HFRS utilise a mixture of Python and Azure Data Factory.)
  3. Utilisation of no and low code options for creation of pipelines. (HFRS utilise a mixture of Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), T-SQL and Power Automate)

The role also includes the elements below and we are comfortable if you don’t possess all of them initially but require you to have the ability to learn them through supported personal development.

Ability to learn

  1. Supervisory role and responsibilities.
  2. Designing, implementing, and supporting data warehouse schemas and associated pipelines.
  3. Managing and supporting existing ETL scripts.
  4. Assisting to formulate strategy for database provision and support.
  5. Agile development project management methodologies, sprints, user stories and breaking down projects into smaller tasks. (HFRS run weekly sprints using Scrum methodologies)
  6. Experience of Azure cloud-based platforms and resources.
  7. Creation of scoping, requirement, and specification documents as part of stakeholder engagement. Translate the requirements into clear user stories.
  8. Assisting with the design of data models and schemas ready for analysis and BI dashboards.
  9. Skills around working with externally hosted authenticated APIs and handling data returned in both JSON and XML formats.

Salary: £37,336 – £39,186
