DIO – Deputy Senior Fire Safety Manager – Defence Fire and Rescue

Defence Fire and Rescue (DFR) provides the Ministry of Defence’s central focus for fire risk management, supporting Defence in complying with fire safety legislation, regulatory standards and corporate risk management requirements. DFR acts as the Department’s senior fire safety subject matter expert and intelligent customer, providing assurance and advice across Defence estates, operations and infrastructure.

The Group Manager Deputy Senior Fire Safety Manager (DIO) is embedded within the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and reports to the Area Manager Senior Fire Safety Manager. The postholder is responsible for supporting fire safety audit, assurance and compliance activities across the Defence estate in the UK and overseas.

This is a 42-hour per week uniformed Defence Fire and Rescue Service position.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Senior Fire Safety Manager in planning and delivering DIO’s second-party fire risk management audit and assurance programme.
Manage assurance activities relating to maintenance organisations, service providers, project teams and organisations responsible for Defence Infrastructure Fire Standards (DIFS) compliance.
Deliver fire safety audit and assurance activities across UK and overseas locations.
Support responses to third-party audit and assurance requirements.
Prioritise and escalate findings that present risks to life, property or Defence capability.
Manage and analyse fire safety assurance data, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
Produce audit reports and provide professional fire safety advice to stakeholders and service providers.
Act as a focal point for infrastructure-related fire safety advice within DIO.
Support assessments of innovative fire engineering solutions and designs, including applications of BS 9999.
Assist with determinations relating to DIFS and building standards compliance.
Monitor emerging legislation, policy and guidance affecting fire safety.
Support the investigation and close-out of fire-related incidents and near misses.
Provide specialist advice on fire safety legislation, policy and infrastructure standards across Defence.

Essential Requirements
Applicants must:

Hold a Full UK Driving Licence.
Hold a Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety.
Be a competent Group Manager, a competent Station Manager seeking promotion, or be able to demonstrate the competencies, experience and evidence of operating as a substantive Station Manager (or above) within a UK Fire and Rescue Service (or military equivalent: Flt Sgt/CPO/WO).

Development Requirements
If not already held, the successful candidate will be required to complete:

Lead Auditor Course.
Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety.
Level 5 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design Technician.
Developed Vetting (DV) Security Clearance application.
