Director of Finance – Kent Fire and Rescue Service

Location: SHQ – mixture of office and home working – 3 days per week in office (with travel countywide, based on needs)
Hours: Full time – 37 Hours per week
Pension: Automatic membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme – 17.5% employer contribution
Holidays: In addition to entitlement to bank/ public holidays you will receive 42 days holiday

Are you an experienced financial leader looking for a role where you can make a real difference? Kent Fire & Rescue Service (KFRS) is seeking a dynamic Finance Director to provide strategic financial leadership, ensuring the effective management of resources to support out vital emergency services,

As Finance Director, you will act as both the Authority’s principal financial adviser and chief financial officer. You will be a key member of the Corporate Management. influencing the making of key organisational decisions, helping the organisation balance service needs of the customer with corporate responsibilities, whilst ensuring compliance with all financial, governance and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
– Drive efficiency and value for money across the organisation.
– Supporting the wider management team with strategic financial advice to senior leadership and stakeholders to help them deliver the service’s long-term objectives.
– Oversee the application of new pension regulations by supporting and providing guidance across the organisation.
– Ensuring the financial affairs are managed and regulations are kept up to date and observed
– Supporting and delivering change initiatives as set out in the Community Risk Management Plans and enabling plans
– Leading EDI policy and initiatives to achieve the key objective of promoting equality and fairness across the organisation
– Managing and overseeing the payroll and pension functions in the organisation, ensuring adherence of the new requirements set out in recent pension case law.
– Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management.

About you:
You will be a qualified finance Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with significant leadership experience and project management at a senior level, ideally within the public sector or a regulated environment. You will bring:
– Strong strategic and operational thinker
– Experience driving change management, through multiple projects
– Excellent leadership and stakeholder engagement abilities
– A proactive, solution focused approach to financial challenges
