Firefighter Control – Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service

Firefighter (Control) is a fast-moving and challenging role which continually adapts to the needs of the service and the community at any given time.

One of the main roles of the Firefighter (Control), in accordance with Fire and Rescue Service response principals, is to receive and handle emergency calls, appropriately dispatching resources to resolve incidents, and support the ongoing needs of events. This includes making decisions based on information received, and informing, and advising others of actions taken.  An ability to work under pressure is essential.

The post holder must perform the role in all operational conditions e.g. Business as usual, Spate and in the implementation of business continuity arrangements.

The post holder will also receive and appropriately respond to non-emergency calls and administration calls from other services, the public and other outside agencies as necessary. This includes, but is not restricted to, Prevention and Protection based work, enquiries from the public, dealing with all out of hours calls for the service and the management of Firefighter resources.

The requirements of the role will mean that you will be expected to demonstrate commitment to the values of the service and council, encourage all those that you manage and work alongside to do the same. Applications are welcomed from grey book competent Control operators or above.
