Are you a Principal Officer passionate about shaping the future of the fire and rescue sector? We are seeking applicants to serve as Chair of the NFCC Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Committee.

After three years as Chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Committee, CFO Andy Hopkinson will be stepping down from his role. Andy has excelled at launching and leading the committee and will continue to support the new committee chair through 2024.

This is an exciting opportunity as the landscape of digital, data and technology has never been more prominent and the need for sector-led improvement so critical. The advert comes just after the NFCC Digital, Data and Technology conference with more than 40 speakers over three days and close to 200 delegates.

The role of the NFCC to lead DDaT within the sector has become significant and rewarding. If you have an interest in data, digital technology, and cybersecurity, recognising their importance for driving improvement in the fire sector, we want to hear from you.

As Chair, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and championing the work of the committee and its respective boards, driving innovation and progress in data-driven decision-making, digital transformation, and cybersecurity resilience within the sector. Your leadership will be instrumental in surfacing local and regional initiatives, shaping strategic priorities, collaborating with subject matter experts, and fostering collaboration across the industry.

This is a great opportunity to step into the role and lead this critical area of work for the NFCC and UK fire and rescue services. The Committee and its work are firmly established and supported across the UK. You won’t be working alone – this is a leadership role and there is already an established support function in place with leadership provided by the two CFO Chairs of the supporting DDaT boards, and from the full-time NFCC DDaT team.

This voluntary position requires up to two days per month and offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the strategic development of the sector. The Committee Chair also sits on the NFCC Steering Group.

To succeed in these roles, you will need:

  • A strong interest in leveraging the value of digital, data, technology, and cybersecurity, with an appreciation of the fire and rescue sector’s specific needs.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills to champion the committee’s work, be the executive connection to the wider NFCC governance, and promote collaboration across industry networks.
  • Passion for advancing data-driven decision-making, digital innovation, and cybersecurity resilience in the fire and rescue sector.
