Expressions of Interest are invited from UK FRS strategic leaders to take on the voluntary role of NFCC Drowning Prevention and Water Safety Lead.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become the NFCC lead role for Drowning Prevention and Water Safety within the Prevention Committee. This role is fundamental in continuing to align our messaging and support the UK Drowning Prevention Strategy to reduce the number of accidental drownings. This role will support national water safety campaigns, toolkits and encourage FRS local delivery. It will support a community risk-based approach by assisting FRSs with data and evaluation.  It also oversees the governance of a national strategic board and action plan and a regular water safety practitioners forum for FRS

This role will work collaboratively with FRSs and other members of the National Water Safety Forum (NWSF) to support its ambition of being a ‘one stop shop’ for the prevention of drowning and water safety harm in the UK.  It also involves being a spokesperson to Policy and to support both NFCC and partners campaigns

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Have a strong and consistent voice on the issues of Drowning Prevention and Water Safety
  • To actively engage in our multi-agency approach to participate, promote and strengthen the UK Drowning Prevention Strategy
  • Work with FRSs and partners to produce and update relevant guidance, position statements and resources to assist in good practice.
  • Be responsible for updating the NFCC Prevention Committee and its workstreams on current challenges, best practice and opportunities, all with the overall objectives in this area.
  • Good understanding of the issues and difference in approaches in devolved administrations in UK.

We are looking for a strategic leader who has:

  • Experience of engaging at a national level with multiple stakeholders and the wider industry sector. This includes central government.
  • A good understanding of the current strategy, campaigns and challenges in this area at a local and/or national level.
  • A great communicator, who has a real passion for this area of drowning prevention and water safety.
  • Has previous experience of bringing partners together to achieve a common goal.
  • Work closely with other NFCC lead officers, in particular the associated areas of water rescue and flooding
