Control vehicle movements: Roadways

Fire and rescue services should

• Provide appropriate risk information for working on roadways
• Establish working arrangements for roadways with the police and other relevant agencies

Incident commanders should

• Liaise with the police and other relevant agencies to close roads or establish traffic management systems
• Appoint safety officers to monitor personnel when working on roadways
• Move or enter a vehicle, by force if necessary, without the consent of its owner, for the purpose of extinguishing fire, rescuing people or protecting them from serious harm
• Close a highway or stop and regulate traffic for the purpose of rescuing people or protecting them from serious harm
