Equality, Diversity And Inclusion Hub
Investing in People, Culture and Leadership by providing good practice guidance, tools and improvements at a national level for implementation locally.
Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) has never been as important as it is right now to the future of our sector and our society.
2020 was a significant time for so many reasons: the global pandemic; the Black Lives Matter movement, and a real move to challenge unjust and exclusive cultures; and internally, our own State of Fire and Rescue report which clearly highlights how fire and rescue services need to act now to change our culture.
Equality, diversity, inclusion (EDI) is both internally and externally focused, making sure we have a sector where our people feel valued and able to be the best they can be in order to provide fully inclusive, accessible, efficient and effective services.
The NFCC EDI Hub has been established to look at ways of working across the sector, where services have made a difference to the way they deliver positive action, or have introduced different ways of working, and how these actions have made a difference.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Improvement Plan
This Strategic Improvement Plan (formerly the EDI Strategy & Plan) has been written to complement the NFCC People Strategy and the NFCC Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Position Statement.
Equality Of Access
The NFCC have produced the Equality of access documents to provide a range of information about different groups of people and ideas, and the actions which services could take to make a positive difference. These documents have been produced to support the NFCC's plan to improve EDI and support cultural change across the sector, promoting discussion, capturing learning and encouraging research locally, and the sharing of good practice improvements across the sector.
Equality, Diversity And Inclusion Toolkits
These toolkits have been produced to complement the suite of NFCC Equality of Access papers. The aim is to help the Fire and Rescue Service staff to have quality and informed conversations. They will help all staff to be supportive and to ensure an inclusive environment which harnesses the unique strengths people can bring.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Data Toolkit
There is potentially a wide range of data to collect and analyse relating to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Fire and Rescue Services need good quality equality data on their people and the communities they serve. The NFCC Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Data Toolkit will assist with setting strategies, enable data based decision making, identify effective practices and make a powerful case for diversity.
Undertaking an Equality Impact Assessment Toolkit
An equality impact assessment is effectively a risk assessment. Its overall aim is to identify risk of inequality, discrimination or disadvantage within service activities (or proposed activities) by assessing the likely impact your policies, procedures, projects or functions might have on the different communities the Fire and Rescue Services both serve and employ.
Lunch And Learn Sessions
In 2021, the NFCC Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) project team introduced Lunch & Learn sessions; inviting a range of different speakers to talk about lived experience on a host of topics.
EDI Sector Report
The report details the most recent quantitative equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) workforce data held by the Home Office and the devolved administrations for UK FRSs. There are five data sets covering gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation and disability across a range of UKFRS staff groups.
