The Role (Role Profile)

Essex-Fire & Rescue Service have a vacancy for a Fleet Workshops Reception Engineer to work alongside the Reception Administration assistant in Colchester. We are seeking applicants with Technical Light and Commercial vehicle Workshop experience. This role does not have line management responsibility for this role and reports directly to the Workshops Manager.

Fleet Workshops provides Essex County Fire & Rescue Service with in-house asset maintenance and repair for all its vehicles and equipment. The fleet consists of some 350 vehicles that range from small cars and car derived vans to fire appliances and specialist vehicles, there are also thousands of items of equipment that Fleet are responsible for. The service provision goes beyond general maintenance, taking account of the specialism that is required for Protection, Prevention and Response.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Calendar bookings for scheduled maintenance, MOT’s & repairs, use of IT systems, Fleet Management System, Quality Management System and Microsoft Office.
  • Liaise with Workshops Supervisor to plan workloads.
  • Carry out MOT test, when necessary, QC checks with MOT testers and MOT admin.
  • Liaise with stores supervisor, suppliers and providers when required.
  • Advise on technical queries.
  • Assess defects and carry out minor repairs.
  • Carry out diagnosis using IT programs.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Control and monitor workloads, liaise with engineers, and produce progress reports.
  • Produce job cards and appropriate service sheets.
Eligibility
  • Minimum NVQ 3 in light vehicle maintenance and experience up to 7.5 T.
  • Full driving licence
  • MOT tester certificate to carry out admin role
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Excellent telephone manner and communicator
