Home Fire Safety Advisor – Part Time – Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service

Vacancy in the Fire Prevention Team – Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service

Home Fire Safety Advisor – Part Time Hours (18) Hours worked Wednesday to Friday between 09:00 – 16:30, based at Darby House, Darby Close, Wellingborough

Are you someone with effective interpersonal skills who can help us to ensure that people at most risk of a fire in their home receive the fire safety advice they need to stay safe and well?
The Prevention Team at Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue are currently seeking a new Home Fire Safety Adviser. This role delivers our enhanced Home Safety Visits to high and very high-risk occupiers referred to us by partner agencies such as Social Services, NHS Teams, Police, Housing Teams and East Midlands Ambulance Service. Our service is aimed at those who find it difficult to help themselves because of physical or mental health or because of sensitive circumstances. We take a person-centred approach to our visits because fire safety for people at risk is usually linked to other environmental and health factors. Our approach is therefore tailored to the needs of individuals and those who support them. This sometimes means arranging joint visits with care workers, tenancy support workers or family members. Through our customer feedback we know this role makes a positive difference to people’s lives, our Home Safety Visits aim to improve fire safety but can also help to signpost and refer to other agencies for further support. Sometimes the people we work to support are experiencing challenging times or living in poor environments. You will therefore need to have personal resilience to support people with dementia, reduced mobility or alcohol reliance, for example, but you will have support from your Line Managers and the Service Wellbeing Team. Needless to say, you will need to have a positive attitude and be self-motivated to successfully develop in this role, excellent interpersonal skills are also essential for you to build trust and rapport with colleagues, partners, and those occupiers we are trying to help. The position is available on a permanent Fire Staff Contract. The role is Part Time 18 hours and will be a mix of caseload administration based at Darby House and carrying out pre-arranged visits in customers own homes. Working hours will be worked Wednesday to Friday between 09:00 – 16:30. There is some flexibility which can be discussed. Applicants must hold a full, current, and valid driving licence and will need use of their own vehicle to travel to and from appointments, for which they will be paid mileage. An enhanced level of Home Fire Safety Visit training and mentoring will be provided by the Home Safety Team and Arson Task Force and a mobile phone and laptop will be issued.
