As an island we have all the infrastructure that would be found in much larger jurisdictions elsewhere. An airport, prison, bulk fuel storage terminal, gas terminal, fuel and gas tanker berth, commercial port, leisure ports and marinas, waste facilities, a general hospital with further development of a new acute hospital, world renowned finance and legal sectors and a high, per capita number of high rise buildings (44) in addition to circa 80 medium rise.
At present our fire precautions legislative framework is based around the prescriptive Fire Precautions (Jersey) Law 1970. We are currently fully committed to reforming fire safety, including the development of new fire safety legislation, including fire precautions and pyrotechnics, whilst actively working on the response to the Grenfell Tower inquiries. We are also working as part of a team alongside our Regulation colleagues to reform the Building Bye-Laws (Jersey) 2007 Technical Guidance Document-Fire Safety to bring us up to date with our UK colleagues.
2025 will see the introduction of a new Community Fire Risk Management Information System within the Fire Safety Department to provide a comprehensive auditing and operational intelligence package.
