Background:

The current NFCC Firefighting Media Lead officer will be retiring and therefore stepping down from this role at the end of the year (2024).

The role sits under NFCC’s Operational Preparedness, Response and Resilience (OPRR) Committee, reporting to the NFCC Technical Response Capability Strategic lead.

This role will lead in engaging with lead officers within their portfolio, FRSs, NFCC hub leads and key partners on the complex issues that varies significantly throughout the UK.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Have a strong and consistent voice on the issues of Operational Firefighting Media.
  • Actively engage in our multi-agency approach to promote NFCCs strategy to strengthen the guidance and activity in this area.
  • Work with FRSs and partners to produce and update relevant guidance, position statements and resources to assist in good practice.
  • Good understanding of the issues and difference in approaches in devolved nations in UK.

The role involves:

  • Leading on matters relating to Firefighting media such as Water, Foam, Wetting Agents etc. and delivery methods.
  • Overseeing the National Water Officers Group
  • Working with Water UK (Who represent Water Undertakers nationally) to manage the relationship between the FRS and Water Companies at Strategic level.
  • Liaising with OFWAT, the Water regulator, where appropriate.
  • Working with the Environment agency in relation to Firefighting Foam Regulations and liaising with the sector to ensure compliance.
  • Working with the Technical Foam lead on issues relating to Firefighting Foam.
  • Being responsible for updating the NFCC Technical Response Capability Strategic lead who will in turn feed into and update OPRR Committee and its workstreams on current challenges, best practice and opportunities, all with the overall objectives in this area.

We are looking for a strategic manager who has:

  • Experience of engaging at a national level with multiple stakeholders and the wider industry sector. This includes central government.
  • A good understanding of the current strategy, campaigns and challenges in this area at a local and/or national level.
  • A great communicator, who has a real passion for this area of firefighting media.
  • Has previous experience of bringing partners together to achieve a common goal.
