Background:
The current NFCC Emergency Response Driver Training lead officer is stepping down at the end of the year (2024). This role will chair the National Emergency Response Driver Training User Group and lead engagement with officers within FRSs, NFCC hub leads and key partners throughout the UK.
The role involves:
- Leading on matters relating to Emergency Response Driver Training
- Being responsible for updating the Operational Preparedness Response and Resilience (OPRR) Committee and its workstreams on current challenges, best practice and opportunities, all with the overall objectives in this area.
- Overseeing the work of the quarterly meetings of the NFCC DTAG-Fire and, where possible, attending other related national and regional meetings
- Attending the DfT High Speed Driving Training (HSDT) advisory group meetings, liaising with group members as required including the national leads from the other emergency services
- Understanding, coordinating the collating of, and presenting any reports required by the DfT (potentially driving course information and an annual compliance reporting)
- Developing the national quality assurance process to help evidence fire and rescue service compliance
- Working with DTAG as and when required to provide strategic advice and steer on aspects such as non-compliance, responses to legal questions for example following serious incidents involving fire and rescue service vehicles and / or drivers
- Oversight of Fire Standard for Emergency Response Driving underpinned by the NFCC Emergency Response Driver and Instructor Framework.
We are looking for a strategic manager who has:
- Experience of engaging at a national level with multiple stakeholders and the wider industry sector. This includes central government
- A good understanding of the current strategy, campaigns and challenges in this area at a local and/or national level
- A great communicator, who has a real passion for Emergency Response Driver Training
- Has previous experience of bringing partners together to achieve a common goal.
Emergency response driving is an essential element of emergency response for fire and rescue services, and this role will be pivotal in ensuring fire and rescue services meet the legal requirements placed upon them. It is also key in assuring Government that the approach we take to training our blue light drivers is appropriate for our needs and delivers competent drivers.
