Background:

The NFCC Information Governance (IG) Lead has now retired from service, and so we are seeking someone to step into that role and take on the next phase of this work, helping to ensure all other workstreams are compliant with GDPR and other relevant legislation, as well as horizon scanning for any changes to those legislations.

Governance Structure:

The IG Leads Forum has an active presence on the NFCC Workplace site and meets virtually. The forum feeds into the NFCC Data Board and then into the NFCC DDaT Committee.

The holder of the position will work closely with the NFCC Data Lead and the NFCC Digital, Technology and Cyber Lead.

Key elements of this role include:

  • Engaging with sector IG Leads across services and encouraging active participation.
  • Developing IG Forums with support from NFCC.
  • Sharing relevant updates with other forums.
  • Being a member of, and participating in, the NFCC Data Board and NFCC Digital, Technology and Cyber Board.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with colleagues in agencies including Home Office, MHCLG, HMICFRS, NCSC and NPSA.
  • Driving adoption of the Data Management Fire Standard, Data Management Framework and associated guidance.
  • Supporting and/or leading working groups when required, with support from NFCC to produce and update relevant guidance, position statements and resources to assist in good practice.
  • Having a strong and consistent voice on the IG requirements of the sector.
  • Supporting the growth of communication platforms, including Workplace and Teams.

You should have:

  • Experience in Information Governance within a fire service and a full understanding of all relevant legislation.
  • A passion for enabling better use and sharing of data within the confines of the law.
  • Experience of the operational and strategic implementation of information governance in fire and rescue, and an understanding of the key drivers and challenges.
  • A good understanding of the issues and difference in approaches in devolved nations and varying governance models across the UK.
  • The passion to drive change in the sector and bring others with you.
  • Experience of engaging at national level with multiple stakeholders and the wider industry sector, including central government.

If you would like to discuss the opportunity above, please contact Steve Taylor, Strategic Data Lead on steve.taylor@nfcc.org.uk.

Expressions of interest should be carried out using this form and will be sent directly to NFCC Admin to hold until the deadline has passed.
