Background:

The current NFCC Technical Response lead officer will be stepping down from this role at the next Operational Preparedness, Response and Resilience (OPRR) Committee meeting in October 2024. At the most recent OPRR meeting, the committee agreed that due to the scope of the Tech Response area becoming incredibly wide, that with a view to assist in improving communications, efficiency and agility that the current wide-ranging portfolio is to be split into two new, much more focussed groups, and therefore, the requirement for two new lead officers.

The new ‘Operational Infrastructure and Transportation’ portfolio will incorporate the existing Transportation Air, Road, Rail (including HS2) and Marine, Alternative Fuels, Nuclear and Radiation groups.

The new ‘Technical Response Capability’ portfolio will incorporate the existing Safe Working at Height and Confined Space Rescue, Hazmats, Firefighting Media, Animal Rescue, RPE, Rural Firefighting / Wildfire, Flood Response and Water Rescue and Drone groups.

This advert relates to the Technical Response Capability Lead Officer.  

This role will lead in engaging with lead officers within their portfolio, FRSs, NFCC hub leads and key partners on the complex issues that varies significantly throughout the UK.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Have a strong and consistent voice on the issues of Technical Response Capability.
  • Actively engage in our multi-agency approach to promote NFCCs strategy to strengthen the guidance and activity in this area.
  • Work with FRSs and partners to produce and update relevant guidance, position statements and resources to assist in good practice.
  • Good understanding of the issues and difference in approaches in devolved nations in UK

Be responsible for updating the NFCC OPRR Committee and its workstreams on current challenges, best practice and opportunities, all with the overall objectives in this area.

We are looking for a strategic manager who has:

  • Experience of engaging at a national level with multiple stakeholders and the wider industry sector. This includes central government.
  • A good understanding of the current strategy, campaigns and challenges in this area at a local and/or national level.
  • Has previous experience of bringing partners together to achieve a common goal.
