NFCC Community Risk Management Lead

We are advertising an excellent opportunity for an NFCC/FRS colleague to step into a national leadership role and support NFCC and FRS colleagues. 

Don’t be put off by the expectation of a national role, there is support available and colleagues will work with you to support the national work under your leadership. 

After several years working on, and then more recently leading, the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Community Risk Management work, CFO Ian Hayton will be stepping down from his role as he retires. Ian has supported and led this work superbly and this is a great opportunity for a new lead to carry on the excellent CRP work. 

The new lead will help maintain and deliver an evidence-based toolkit for assessing UK fire and rescue service related risk and vulnerability to improve the safety, health, wellbeing, and economic prosperity of communities. 

The Programme is scheduled to close in December 2023, with governance under Business as Usual (BAU) passing to the newly formed NFCC Community Risk Coordinating function. 

The Community Risk Management Programme was initiated in 2017 and has produced a set of standardised tools for FRSs enabling consistent identification, assessment, stratification, and mitigation for community risks. Tools that have been developed include:  

• National Definition of Risk 
• Strategic Risk Framework 
• Competencies Framework 
• Evaluation Methodologies 
• Economic and Social Value Methodology 

The NFCC Strategic Lead for Community Risk will: 

• Chair the NFCC Community Risk Coordinating function. 
• Be a member of the NFCC Improvement Committee 
• Liaise with the NFCC Improvement Committee Chair as appropriate.  

The newly formed Community Risk Coordinating Committee aims to: 

• Maintain the current NFCC community risk products 
• Identify any impacts or influence on community risk planning guidance and products when new initiatives from Protection, Prevention and Operational Response and Fire Control are being implemented and ensure appropriate action is taken to ensure guidance and products remain relevant. 
• Identify any potential new community risk management planning initiatives and ensure that these are documented, and appropriate action is taken to progress these. 
• Identify any external factors that may impact or influence the community risk planning guidance and products and ensure that appropriate action is taken to ensure these remain relevant.
