Be Moor Aware - West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service

Text reads One Campfire, Decades of lasting damage. Firefighters tackling wildfires on moorland

Be Moor Aware is a wildfire campaign and aims to prevent moorland fires.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service developed the campaign in collaboration with major moorland land owners in their region. It aims and to prevent and reduce the impact these fires have on fire services, communities, businesses, and the environment.

The moorland in this area is not only beautiful and home to precious wildfire, they is important to the surrounding towns and cities, providing water to these outlying areas and playing a part in reducing flooding. Wildfire can have a major impact in water quality and causing damage to lower valleys, reducing their capacity to hold water and increasing the risk of flooding.

The work has included the introduction of Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) by local councils which ban the use of barbecues, fires, sky lanterns, fireworks and other dangerous items from moorland.
