Prevention Hub

The NFCC Prevention Hub provides national leadership and practical support to Fire and Rescue Services (FRSs) and partners to reduce preventable harm and make communities safer, through its prevention and safeguarding workstreams. 

Working Together 

Sitting within the Service Delivery Department of the Continuous Improvement Directorate, the Prevention Hub operates as a Business as Usual (BAU) function. Working closely with other NFCC hubs and teams to deliver our Safer and Healthier Communities strategic objective, enabling better shared learning and opportunities. 

Partnership working, collaboration and continuous improvement underpin all areas of our work. Through engagement with Fire and Rescue Services, government, partners and communities, we aim to strengthen prevention and safeguarding activity, improve outcomes and support safer and healthier communities across the UK. Achieved by identifying risk early through Community Risk Management Planning and target interventions that protect life and homes property—preventing injuries and fatalities in the home, on the road and in water. 

We also promote learning and celebrate excellence through our annual Conference and Celebrating Prevention Awards, which showcase innovative practice, recognise achievements and provide opportunities for collaboration, networking and the sharing of knowledge across the sector. 

What We Do 

The Prevention Hub works with FRSs, government departments, partners and subject matter experts to: 

• Provide national leadership and support for prevention and safeguarding activity. 
• Influence and support FRSs to deliver effective, evidence-based prevention interventions. 
• Develop and maintain national products, including guidance, toolkits, training resources and position statements. 
• Support implementation of the Prevention Fire Standard and Safeguarding Fire Standard. 
• Identify and respond to emerging risks, trends and legislative requirements. 
• Promote consistency, competence, quality assurance and evaluation across prevention and safeguarding activity. 
• Support Community Risk Management Planning through improved understanding of risk and targeted interventions. 
• Facilitate collaboration, engagement and sector-led improvement across Fire and Rescue Services.

Governance 

The work of the Prevention Hub is delivered, directed and scrutinised by the Prevention Committee and its associated governance structures. Funded through the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and other funding streams, the Hub provides national leadership, products and support to strengthen prevention and safeguarding activity across Fire and Rescue Services.
