Internal Governance Officer – West Midlands Fire Service

We’re offering an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid understanding of internal governance, and some hands-on experience, to join us as an Internal Governance Officer. This role is suited to someone ready to build on their existing knowledge, work closely with our senior leadership team, and develop their skills in strategic thinking, collaboration and leadership support.

You’ll play a key role in supporting the connectivity of our leadership team within the Strategy Team, coordinating key meetings, contributing to development programmes and helping ensure we stay linked with the wider sector.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

run senior leadership meetings by organising, facilitating and leading our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) meetings, including scheduling, prioritising and planning agendas, capturing actions and monitoring delivery and recording of decisions
support leadership development by coordinating our senior leadership training programme and working with others to facilitate workshops and learning activities
keep us connected by coordinating leaders’ involvement in sector meetings and ensuring insights are shared to inform strategy, while working closely with Personal Assistants, Administration and Communications teams to coordinate activities and events
help improve internal processes by working with the Internal Governance Manager to enhance how we run meetings, support leadership and stay aligned with our goals and internal governance processes.
Experience and skills Essential skills or experience

We are looking for someone who:

is a confident communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills
is skilled in using meeting management software or similar tools
has strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage complex schedules, forward plan and prioritise work for themselves and others
is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement and adapting processes to meet changing needs
can build strong working relationships at all levels, internally and externally, representing WMFS confidently in sector forums.
Desirable skills or experience

It would be advantageous to have:

good knowledge of national strategies, legislation and initiatives relevant to the role
good understanding of local government
effective consultation and negotiation skills
experience using meeting management software such as Decisions.

Salary: £44075 per annum
