NFCC Suicide Prevention and Postvention Toolkit
Closing Date: 02/12/2025
Consultation Status: Closed
To strengthen the fire sector’s role in suicide prevention and in responding to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, NFCC has developed a Suicide Prevention Toolkit. This initiative is being led by NFCC’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Working Group, chaired by Paula Lyons (Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Avon Fire and Rescue Service) and Lauren Merritt (Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service), in collaboration with the Fire Fighters Charity.
The toolkit offers immediate signposting and clear pathways to relevant resources, tailored to the needs of the user. It serves as a central access point via the NFCC website, connecting users to existing materials provided by the Fire Fighters Charity and other curated sources. You may notice that some of the resources in the toolkit are repeated. This is intentional and because they are relevant to more than one pathway, and users may only access the pathway they need during their visit to the toolkit.
This is an evolving piece of work, and you’ll notice comments within the draft highlighting areas identified for further development. We welcome your feedback to help shape the next phase of this project.
You can access the draft document here: NFCC Suicide Prevention and Postvention Toolkit – draft document for consultation.
Before publication, we are seeking input on the format of the pathways and the clarity of the signposting. Once feedback is reviewed, the toolkit will be updated accordingly. The final version will also be adapted to meet accessibility standards, ensuring ease of navigation and usability.
If you would like to prepare your response, you can review the questions in advance here: Export of Suicide Prevention and Postvention consultation. There is also a save and continue function that can be used throughout the consultation so that you can return to your response later and pick up where you left off.
This survey will close end of the day Tuesday 02 December 2025. If you have any questions, please contact PCLhub@nfcc.org.uk
Thank you for taking the time to respond to this consultation.
