Wildfire Competence Framework consultation
Closing Date: 04/12/2026
Consultation Status: Open
National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) are seeking feedback on the proposed Interim Wildfire Competence Framework, developed to support fire and rescue services in developing, maintaining and assuring competence in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
The framework establishes a nationally consistent, risk-based approach to wildfire competence across UK fire and rescue services. Aligned with the NFCC Sector-Wide Model of Competence, it sets out the knowledge, skills, behaviours and experience required across seven progressive levels of competence. The framework has been designed to be proportionate and flexible, enabling each fire and rescue service to determine the wildfire capability it requires based on local risk, operating environment and Community Risk Management Plan, while supporting training, assessment, organisational assurance, interoperability and continuous improvement.
