Control on-site vehicle movements
Control Measure Knowledge
It may be necessary to control, restrict or isolate vehicle movements. However, the impact of taking this action should be considered, as it may affect business continuity and the community.
On-site vehicle operators should be made aware of the presence of personnel and other emergency responders, and the extent of control, restriction or isolation in place.
For information relating to the isolation of modes of transport refer to:
- Transport – Identify and isolate fuel systems in modes of transport
- Transport – Identify and isolate electrical systems in modes of transport
If vehicles are isolated, a robust system should be implemented to ensure that the vehicles are not brought back into operation, unless agreed by the incident commander.
As personnel may attend incidents at industrial sites while there are no on-site staff present, it may be beneficial for fire and rescue services to maintain a directory of people who are competent to move on-site vehicles. These people could be requested to attend the site if the responsible person is unable to provide on-site staff within the timeframe required.
It may be necessary to arrange for a competent person to remove any on-site vehicle that is not being used in the incident to an alternative location where it will not have an impact on, or become involved in, the incident.
