Extricate trapped aircrew from a military aircraft

Control Measure Knowledge

This control measure should only be used if the military aircraft canopy and ejection seats have been made safe, following the guidance of a specialist adviser.

Extrication will involve working in very limited space; care should be taken to not accidentally operate any switches or equipment. Records should be kept of all operational activity taken, including any movement of aircraft controls for investigation purposes.

Based on triage of the aircrew, unless it is time-critical to extricate them, await medical and specialist military assistance prior to extrication.

The aircrew may need to be released from harnesses, cables and connectors prior to their extrication. This should be done following instructions from the aircrew or other specialist. Usually the harness is released by starting at the head and working downwards, releasing the main harness last.
