Fire Safety Team Leader – WCdr B/Technical 1A (West Midlands Fire Service)

An excellent opportunity is available to join the Fire Safety team. Applications are open to high-performing, competent Crew Managers, Watch Managers, and Fire Safety Officers.
It is essential that you are a competent Fire Safety Inspector (FSI) in line with the Competency Framework for Fire Safety Regulators. Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) will be assessed during the process. A current driving licence, access to a vehicle for business use, and relevant business insurance are also required. All ‘grey book’ applicants must demonstrate competence in WM7.
As a team leader, you will need to show strong leadership skills, effective decision-making, and collaborative problem-solving abilities. The ability to engage, inspire and motivate both internal and external stakeholders is key, as is a commitment to delivering our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) and achieving our protection objectives to make communities across the West Midlands safe.

Responsibilities
As part of the Fire Safety team, you will:
• use excellent communication skills to effectively engage with colleagues, stakeholders, and community partners
• provide strong leadership and performance management, inspiring your team to deliver high standards of service
• drive and embed a culture of change and innovation, ensuring continuous improvement in the delivery of protection services
• work collaboratively to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness in achieving our organisational goals
• apply vision, drive, and passion to ensure your team’s work aligns with our commitment to reducing risk and keeping communities safe.
Experience and skills
Essential skills or experience
• a Level 4 Diploma as a Fire Safety Inspector
• proven competence as a Fire Safety Officer, meeting the standards set out in the Competency Framework for Fire Safety Regulators
• a valid driving licence, access to your own vehicle for work purposes, and appropriate business insurance
• the ability to manage change and innovate, ensuring the ongoing development and improvement of your team’s processes
• experience of identifying and addressing risk areas in line with Integrated Local Area Plans (ILAP) and the operations commanders’ risk reduction strategies
• the ability to review, scrutinise, and quality-check reports from your team, ensuring high standards of work.
Desirable skills or experience
• qualifications or previous experience in planning or licensing
• management experience or a management qualification.

Salary: Watch Commander B £46,707/Technical 1A £44,711
