Fire Service Driving Instructor – West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

Working Pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week. You may sometimes be required to work varied patterns to ensure the service needs are met.

Contract: Permanent.

Location: Your base will be Chichester Fire Station and a typical week will combine homeworking with attendance at the office or visits around the County. This is led by the needs of the service.

Interviews: Friday 7th Match 2025.

As a Fire Service Driving Instructor, you will be essential to the delivery of the Operational Training Team Business Plan and in supporting the Service’s Community Risk Management Plan. You will ensure our dedicated staff are not only competent but empowered, safe, and healthy behind the wheel, making a real difference in their life-saving missions.

You will be responsible for the training, instruction and examination of all Fire Service staff who are required to drive as part of their role, including service vehicles for general use and in an emergency response capacity.

What we are looking for:
Interpersonal skills.
IT skills for the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Able to present and deliver training to groups of people and individuals, varying delivery style to suit a wide range of audiences when required.
Ability to coach and influence to encourage others to take the appropriate course of action.
Ability to deliver feedback and create action plans appropriate to the learner’s needs.
Hold a current, clean LGV UK driving licence (held for a minimum of 3 years).
Class 2 driving licence – minimum 3 years (no 78 restriction)
Level 3 Adult Education and Training (AET) award
Parts 1, 2 & 3 DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
NFCC Approved Emergency Response Driving instructor.
Assessor’s qualification – TAQA or equivalent.
Experience of blue light response driving, i.e. fire, police, ambulance.
An in-depth knowledge of the Highway Code.
Knowledge and understanding of safe driving practices, both nationally and within West Sussex County Council.
Knowledge of basic LGV and car mechanics.
Knowledge of practical and theoretical instruction of vehicles.
BORDER off-road 4×4 instructor qualification or equivalent.
Our ideal candidate will possess the majority of the skills and qualifications mentioned above. However, we are open to discussions with individuals who are nearing completion of some of these qualifications.

Salary: £35,235 to £37,938 per annum
