Protection Technical Officer – NFCC

Department: Protection Reform Unit 

Contract type:  Permanent Contract 

Hours: 37 hours / week

Salary:  Circa £45,000 per annum

Location:  Home Based (UK wide travel as required) 

Reports To:  Head of Service & Delivery  

The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) works with all fire and rescue services and the fire and rescue community across the UK to provide best practice, share resource and ensure continuous improvement to deliver our charitable aim.  

We have an exciting opportunity for a Protection Technical Officer to join our Protection team. In this role, you’ll support the overall outcomes of the team aligned with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and NFCC deliverables, playing a vital part in shaping technical fire safety solutions and liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders.  

You’ll contribute to developing national standards and policy guidance for the fire safety regulation, ensuring the protection of both the public and firefighters.  A significant aspect of this role involves leading on competence frameworks for the fire service protection officers, including training courses, qualifications and accreditation processes. 

What we are looking for: 

Expertise in Protection: Proven experience working within a Protection environment.  

Qualifications: Ideally Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or equivalent and additional technical qualifications such as Level 5 Fire Engineering design or equivalent. 

Analytical Skills: Strong ability to research, analyse and produced clear concise reports. 

Technical Knowledge: Experience applying technical codes and standards in an enforcement environment, with detailed understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and building safety regimes. 

Policy Development: Skilled in creating and applying enforcement policies, procedures and guidance relating to fire safety legislation.
