NFCC Chair expresses his deepest sympathy following the death of Scottish firefighter
The National Fire Chiefs Council has expressed its deepest sympathy and sadness following the death of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service firefighter Barry Martin.
Mr Martin sadly lost his life earlier today following injuries he sustained at a serious and complex fire in Edinburgh earlier in the week.
NFCC Chair Mark Hardingham, commented: “I am devastated to hear the news that Barry passed away earlier today. It goes without saying that my thoughts and sympathies are with his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones at this incredibly sad and difficult time.”
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Interim Chief Officer Ross Haggart said: “It is with profound sadness that I confirm, on behalf of his family, that Barry Martin has passed away this afternoon following the serious injuries he sustained during a large-scale fire at the former Jenners building in Edinburgh. Barry, who was being treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, had been in a critical condition since Monday’s fire.
“I speak for the entire Service when I say that we are all devastated by the loss of Barry and our thoughts remain with his family, friends and colleagues at this deeply distressing time.”
