This position requires individuals with an understanding and appreciation of the significance of AWSS in fire safety and a focus on leadership within the sector. The Lead will play a crucial role in driving forward the NFCC Position Statement, enhancing the understanding and provision of sprinklers within the built environment. The workstream has broad involvement from NFCC Members, Protection staff, and key stakeholders, including the Chair of the NFCC Protection Committee, industry experts, and representatives from the National Fire Sprinkler Network (NFSN).
The key responsibilities include advancing the sector’s priorities on AWSS, providing oversight of the NFCC’s AWSS initiatives, and promoting the workstream across peer and industry networks.
The Lead will serve as an executive member on the board of the NFSN, which collaborates with industry and governmental bodies to influence building regulations and associated guidance.
The Lead will be supported by the Chair of the NFCC Protection Committee, who will work closely with the Lead as part of the wider NFCC team.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the AWSS workstream, ensuring alignment with NFCC’s overall goals and objectives.
- Chair workstream meetings and serve as the executive connection to the NFCC Protection Committee.
- Collaborate with industry experts and NFCC Members to leverage their knowledge and insights, guiding the workstream’s decisions and actions.
- Shape strategic priorities and identify opportunities to enhance the understanding and implementation of AWSS within the built environment.
- Oversee the delivery of the NFCC’s AWSS Position Statement and related initiatives.
Championing and Promotion:
- Act as a champion for AWSS within the fire and rescue sector and among partner organisations.
- Promote the importance of AWSS across peer and industry networks, raising awareness of their significance for fire safety.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including senior leaders and politicians, to advocate for the adoption of AWSS best practices and amendments to building regulations.
Governance and Oversight:
- Attend/chair workstream meetings to foster productive and collaborative discussions on key priorities among workstream members, industry experts, and stakeholders.
- Monitor the implementation of workstream decisions, evaluating their outcomes and promoting accountability.
Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including NFCC Members, industry experts, civil servants, and politicians.
- Collaborate with other relevant committees and working groups to promote the integration and alignment of AWSS strategies.
- Work closely with the NFCC Protection Committee Chair and the NFSN to shape and deliver AWSS initiatives.
Reporting and Communication:
- Where required, prepare and present information on the progress, achievements, and challenges of the AWSS workstream to the NFCC Protection Committee, senior leaders and other stakeholders.
Requirements:

- A willingness to learn and an appreciation of the built environment’s specific needs.
- Excellent communication and networking skills to champion the workstream’s initiatives and promote collaboration across industry networks.
