Background:
NFCC are looking to recruit an individual to the role of Transportation – Aviation Lead. The position sits under operational infrastructure and transportation workstream within the NFCC’s Operational Preparedness, Response and Resilience (OPRR) committee, and reports to the Committee Chair.
The postholder will be responsible for leading an established group with good membership and established workstreams. This group plays a vital role in driving continuous improvement, promoting collaboration and shaping good practice in transportation aviation at a national level, addressing key issues and identifying opportunities across UK fire and rescue services.
This role will lead in engaging with the Lead Officers within their portfolio, FRSs, NFCC hub leads and key partners on various and complex issues across the UK.

To be aware of NFCC’s Member Strategy to ensure that work within their lead area remains aligned to the principles and objectives of NFCC

To demonstrate NFCC values and follow the Core Code of Ethics

To oversee, guide and champion their lead subject area at a national level
- Represent NFCC, and therefore UK fire and rescue services, as a subject matter adviser where appropriate; this may include:
- NFCC meetings
- External meetings
- Responding to the media, although any media representation should be pre-agreed with the NFCC Communications Team

Maintain a strong understanding of developments within their lead area, including horizon-scanning and across related subject areas

Ensure that they maintain good communication through their NFCC reporting line and throughout any NFCC networks, as appropriate

To work alongside NFCC hubs or teams, to ensure clear and consistent messaging for announcements and campaigns

Have a strong and consistent voice on the issues of Transportation – Aviation

Actively engage in our multi-agency approach to promote NFCC’s strategy to strengthen the guidance and activity in this area.
- Work with FRS and partners to produce and update relevant guidance, position statements and resources to assist in good practice.

Actively engage in a multi-agency approach to promote NFCC’s strategy for their lead officer area

Work with fire and rescue services and partners to produce and update relevant products to promote good practice

Provide updates to NFCC groups, including the OPRR Committee and the Operational Training and Education Group (OTEG)

Leading on matters relating to Transportation – Aviation

Working with relevant external organisations to develop and maintain relationships with FRSs at a strategic level.

Liaising with agencies and regulators where appropriate to ensure compliance.
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with other NFCC Leads on related topics
We are looking for a strategic manager who has:

Experience of engaging at a national level with multiple stakeholders and the wider industry sector. This includes central government.

A good understanding of the current strategy, campaigns and challenges in this area at a local and/or national level.

A good understanding of the issues and difference in approach required across the UK’s devolved nations.

A great communicator, who has a real passion for Transportation – Aviation

Demonstrate an ability to strive for continuous improvement for their lead officer area

Have a good understanding of the issues and requirements of devolved administrations in the UK
- Has previous experience of bringing partners together to achieve a common goal.
