Rescue of casualties from sand holes

On 22 October 2025, the Operational Preparedness, Response and Resilience Committee approved change request O.G. CC 113 – Search, rescue and casualty care – Casualty on unstable ground

This provides guidance for incidents involving a casualty trapped in a collapsed sand hole, which is likely to require a multi-agency response, and potentially the co-ordination of members of the public to assist with the rescue.

This change request has required the replacement of two existing strategic actions, to incorporate the topic of rescuing casualties from sand holes.
