Statement on the attack on Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, north Manchester

Responding to the attack on Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, north Manchester, National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Chair, Phil Garrigan, said:

“Our thoughts are first and foremost with all those affected by today’s attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the members of the Jewish community who tragically lost their lives in this dreadful attack, and we are thinking of the members of the public who are receiving treatment in hospital.

“We also recognise the outstanding response of the emergency services. Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, together with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service, acted with speed and courage in the face of truly horrendous circumstances – providing emergency care, ensuring the safe evacuation of a neighbouring building, and offering reassurance to a community enduring unimaginable distress.”
