Fire Control Guidance: Incidents involving animals

On 16th July 2026, the Operational Preparedness, Response and Resilience Committee approved the publication of new Fire Control Guidance for incidents involving animals.

The guidance has been developed to assist fire and rescue services in identifying hazards and implementing control measures relating to incidents involving animals. It applies from receipt of the emergency call through to the conclusion of the incident.

It also supports effective information sharing with operational personnel and partner organisations, including animal welfare charities, veterinary organisations and other specialist resources
