Fire contaminants risk assessment – Overarching consultation

Closing Date: 23/11/2026

Consultation Status: Open

National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) are seeking feedback on a suite of fire contaminants risk assessment templates designed to support fire and rescue services in developing and reviewing local risk assessments. The templates identify common hazards associated with exposure to fire contaminants and provide control measures for services to consider.

This consultation relates to the proposed overarching risk assessment template, which considers the potential for exposure to fire contaminants across all fire and rescue service activities, workplaces and stages of the contamination pathway. The assessment provides best-practice control measures to minimise direct and secondary exposure and should be considered alongside the activity-specific fire contaminants risk assessments.
