Cornwall CFO represents UKFRS at Downing Street International Women’s Day celebration

Kath Billing at Downing Street

Cornwall’s Chief Fire Officer Kathryn Billing was at Downing Street earlier this week representing the UK Fire and Rescue Service at a special event to mark International Women’s Day.

Kath, who has led on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for NFCC, was among over 100 guests from a wide range of industries, charities and the public sector at a reception to celebrate inspirational female leaders.

Described as ‘trailblazers, leaders and pioneers in their fields’, the guests were joined by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and key figures from Government. The event was designed to celebrate the successes of women who are breaking glass ceilings across the UK and the world.

Speaking about the event, Kathryn said:

“It was an enormous honour and privilege to stand among so many amazing and inspirational women just a few days after the world celebrated International Women’s Day.

“There was a buzz and an energy in the room that is hard to describe; each of those invited were there not only because of their own successes and achievements, but as part of a wider appreciation and recognition of the contribution of all women across a huge range of businesses, charities and public-facing organisations.

“I was immensely proud to represent NFCC and the many outstanding women who work in our fire and rescue services and the wider fire sector, at such an uplifting and inspirational celebration event.”

In an address to those invited, the Prime Minister said the day was a chance to honour the women that came before us, stand alongside women in the fight for equality, and together, create a better future for generations to come.
