Community Risk and Performance Analyst – West Midlands Fire Service

A unique and exciting opportunity exists to join West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) as a Community Risk and Performance Analyst.  

Our work to reduce those risks is driven by our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP). It helps us to set our priorities, which together – guided by our strategy – we work to achieve. As part of the analyst team, you will be a key part of our CRMP process.  

About the role 

Our research and data help us understand who’s most at risk from fire and other incidents, and when and where they happen. This data also helps us to identify opportunities to improve, use our resources more effectively and efficiently to help those who need it most.  
  
But there’s a lot more to consider- things like climate change, building and infrastructure developments, technology, world events, changes in health, social and economic issues. These all shape the risks our communities face now and are likely to face in the future.  

Responsibilities 

The postholder will:  

  • have a proven ability to interpret complex data and risk intelligence, with an understanding of how this can influence community risk management decision making and aid effective risk horizon scanning  
  • take a consistent and methodical approach to gathering data to ensure the CRMP is fit for purpose  
  • be responsible for data handling and analysis, modelling, mapping, reporting and research across a range of subject areas. This will support the generation and collation of intelligence to inform organisational decision making, risk management, resource planning, evaluation and performance monitoring processes  
  • provide expert input and professional insight on available data and its analysis for purposes including: performance management, forecasting and target setting; resource management and deployment; scenario modelling; the creation and interpretation of maps, charts, diagrams, reports and presentations in line with time critical deadlines  
  • use specialist and bespoke software systems and applications, to collate and interpret data into meaningful, accurate and timely intelligence reports for consumption by a variety of audiences and stakeholders.  

Experience and skills 

  • knowledge or experience of software packages such as Tableau, Power Bi, Q-Gis 
  • structured Query Language (SQL) (or similar) for the retrieval and management of data 
  • experience of processing data using Geographical Information System (GIS). 

Salary: £40,777-£42,839

Contract type: Full Time
