CRFS0186 – Health and Safety Advisor – Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified and motivated Health & Safety Advisor to join our Health & Safety Team.

Working closely with managers, staff and representative bodies, you will help develop and maintain an effective health and safety management system across Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service. You will provide professional advice and support, contribute to audits and investigations, develop policies and training, and help promote a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.

This is a varied and rewarding role, offering the opportunity to influence health and safety practices across a diverse operational and support workforce while helping to ensure the wellbeing of our employees and the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities

– Provide professional health and safety advice and guidance to managers and employees across the Service
– Support the development, implementation and review of health and safety policies and procedures
– Assist with workplace inspections, audits, investigations and risk management activities
– Deliver and support health and safety training and awareness initiatives
– Monitor compliance with health and safety legislation and best practice
– Work collaboratively with representative bodies and stakeholders to promote a positive health and safety culture
– Prepare reports, maintain records and contribute to continuous improvement activities

What we’re looking for

You will hold a NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent) and have experience working in a health and safety advisory role.

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills
– The ability to build positive working relationships at all levels
– Sound judgement and problem-solving skills
– Experience of interpreting and applying health and safety legislation
– Confidence to influence and support positive change across a diverse workforce
– A proactive and organised approach to managing workloads and priorities
