Learning and Development Apprenticeship Instructor (Firefighter Apprenticeship Support)
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is looking for a Learning and Development Apprenticeship Instructor to support the delivery, quality assurance and development of our Firefighter Apprenticeship Programme.
This role is based within Learning and Development at Wray Park Training Centre, Reigate, and is offered at Watch Commander (B) + 10%.
The postholder will play a key role in supporting firefighter apprentices throughout their learning journey, working closely with Surrey Adult Learning (SAL), instructors, station-based line managers and wider internal and external stakeholders. The role will help ensure apprentices receive high-quality training, timely support, fair access to learning and a positive development experience in line with national standards and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
• planning, supporting and delivering apprenticeship learning activities;
• providing development, assessment, feedback and wellbeing support to apprentices;
• monitoring apprenticeship progress through progress reviews and liaison with line managers and assessors;
• supporting the quality assurance of programme delivery, including initial training and staged assessment processes;
• developing and maintaining training materials, e-learning resources and competence monitoring;
• supporting Maintenance of Competence (MOC) standards for relevant subject areas;
• contributing to the design and delivery of wider Learning and Development programmes;
• maintaining National Operational Guidance, Ofsted and Skills England standards;
• undertaking risk assessments and ensuring suitable equipment, PPE and consumables are available for learners and instructors;
• providing contingency cover to maintain operational response when required.
We are looking for someone with strong operational knowledge, excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to developing others. Experience of teaching Level 3 qualifications or delivering apprenticeships is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be confident working with diverse groups of staff and learners, able to manage changing priorities, and committed to maintaining high professional standards.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate knowledge of Fire Service Operations, National Operational Guidance, health and safety requirements, people management policies and performance management. A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to the Core Code of Ethics for Fire and Rescue Services, is essential.
Relevant qualifications include ICS Level 1 where applicable, IOSH Managing Safely, Supervisory Leadership Development Programme, Award in Education and Training, Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, and instructor qualifications in technical subject areas as directed.
Salary: £44,038 - 48,202
