Learning & Development Instructor (Firefighter Apprenticeship Support) – Surrey Fire & Rescue Service
An opportunity has arisen to join Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), as an operational Instructor in the Learning and Development department at Wray Park Training Centre, Reigate, Surrey, leading on Firefighter Apprenticeships.
External Applications are invited from competent Crew Commanders (CC), and Watch Commanders (WC), who have Instructing (PTLLS or Level 3 Award in Education and Training), Assessor (CAVA or A1 full assessors award) qualifications and experience in the Fire & Rescue Service.
Operational staff will be required to maintain operational competencies by carrying out a duty shift per month at one of our Stations at your substantive rank.
Job Introduction
You will become a skilled and knowledgeable Instructor, leading on Firefighter Apprenticeships. Â You will be responsible for the research, development, and delivery of all learning materials for your subject area, including maintaining the standards of other instructors.
The role will be paid at WC(B) rate if already a competent WC or have successfully achieved an Instructor, Assessing and Teaching Qualification. Prior to this, the role will be paid at WC Development rate.
This role attracts an additional 10% enhancement due to the flexible nature of the role.
You will be expected to maintain competence in operational duties associated with your substantive role by riding across any of SFRS’s Fire Stations at least once per month.
This role is subject to Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Appointment will be subject to satisfactory medical, fitness assessment, references and competency review.

6th May 2026 – Those selected will be required to:
- Deliver a 10-minute presentation:Â What are the key challenges in managing apprenticeship programmes in the Fire and Rescue Service?
- Take part in an interview based on your experience and knowledge of training and developing staff in a Fire Service environment.
Salary: £44,038 - £48,202
