Protection Technical Officer – NFCC

The NFCC is currently seeking a competent and conscientious Protection Technical Officer to join our Protection Team.
As a member of NFCC you will deliver outputs to meet organisational objectives as set by NFCC Membership, Committees and the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government. Your primary focus will be leading work on competence and qualifications across a range of workstreams within the NFCC Protection Reform Unit.
You will also manage a small team of staff working to prepare NFCC to deliver core training and qualifications for protection officers.
You will be expected to deliver work against set timescales in line with internal governance processes, coordinating the work and, where you are leading work, those working with you, and engaging the assistance of others.
The role will require you to represent the views and values of NFCC and agreed technical/policy positions to committees, boards and other groups through effective liaison with stakeholders.
The primary purpose of the role is to help strengthen consistency, collaboration and continuous improvement through development and deployment of competence standards and qualifications across the FRS Protection Landscape.
We are looking for a professional individual that has:
Essential
- Excellent communication skills and have a proven track record of developing effective working relationships across a range of partners and levels of responsibility
- Extensive experience of undertaking research, analysing information and providing concise written summaries of findings.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering work against set timescales and to specific standards using clear project management or structured working methodologies in a team environment.
- Practical experience of working in the competence, education and/or qualification sector as they relate to fire and rescue services or similar organisations.
- Conversant with the use of digital systems to undertake work, research, analysis and the drafting and delivery of guidance and other systems and applications relevant to work planning and maintenance.
- Experience of leading the development of new policies, standards, guidance or qualifications their operationalisation and reviewing their effectiveness.
Desirable
- In-depth knowledge of the FRS Protection function and have been active within fire safety as it relates to the built environment industry.
- Practical experience of the application of technical standards, codes of practice, legislation and other guidance relevant to the enforcement of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
- Membership of sector relevant organisations led through personal development.
- Demonstrable competence of a fire safety related role in an enforcing authority.
- Possess a project management qualification commensurate with the expectations of the role through a recognised and accredited awarding organisation where appropriate.
- Qualifications and demonstrable work experience in specialist areas of fire safety regulation or equivalent in relation to the qualifications, competence and education sectors.
- Experience of working at a local, regional and national levels with partners to deliver change through technical standards, legislation or guidance through membership of working groups and committees.
