Station Manager – Incident Command Training – West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service
Salary: Station Manager B development £52,040 – competent £57,402
Working Pattern: Full time, average of 42 hours per week.
Location: Your primary office location will be our Training Centre in Horsham, and you will also have the flexibility to work from other stations throughout West Sussex. Additionally, there will be opportunities for you to work remotely from home, as deemed appropriate for your work responsibilities.
Assessments and Interview: Incident Command assessments are scheduled for w/c 31 August 2026 and interviews from w/c 21 September 2026

We are seeking an experienced, innovative and motivated operational leader to join our Operational Training Team as Station Manager – Incident Command Training.
This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the development of Incident Commanders across the Service, ensuring that operational leaders are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make critical decisions when it matters most.
Reporting within the Operational Training, Safety & Preparedness Department, you will lead and manage the Incident Command Training Team, ensuring all designated Incident Commanders at Initial, Intermediate, Advanced and Strategic levels meet the required NFCC and nationally accredited standards.
You will provide oversight of incident command learning, development, assessment and quality assurance, ensuring that WSFRS remains compliant with National Operational Guidance and recognised best practice.
Working closely with operational colleagues and key stakeholders, you will ensure our Incident Command training programmes remain current, innovative and effective, incorporating both face-to-face and digital learning solutions to support operational excellence.
This role will be conditioned to the Day Duty system. A Flexi-Duty line may be offered later subject to business needs and statutory duty requirements but is not immediately applicable to this post. If the successful applicant is internal and already holds a substantive Flexi Duty line this would be maintained.
