Background:
NFCC is looking to recruit a new Lead Officer for FireFit. The Lead Officer will chair the FireFit Steering Group which reports to NFCC’s Health and Wellbeing Board. The Board reports into the People Culture & Leadership (PCL) Committee and, in turn, this informs and makes recommendations to the Fire Chiefs Council.
The Health and Wellbeing Board sits alongside three other Boards responsible for delivering the PCL Strategic Plan (People; Leadership & OD; Equality Diversity & Inclusion). Physical Health is one of NFCC’s strategic priorities for the next few years and the Lead Officer will play a key role in helping to shape and lead the work that is undertaken in this area.
The role involves:
- Leading on matters relating to fitness and physical health
- Chairing the FireFit Steering Group which exists to provide evidence-based guidance to the UK Fire and Rescue sector regarding fitness and physical health
- Providing strategic-level sponsorship, advice and peer support to the PCL Hub on fitness and physical health-related workstreams
- Working with relevant external organisations to develop and maintain relationships with FRSs at a strategic level
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with other NFCC Lead Officers, Hubs, and external partners on related topics
- Maintaining effective communication with ACER to ensure relevant research is shared and incorporated into best practice around fitness and physical health
- Attending and advising the NFCC Health and Wellbeing Board (meets quarterly) on fitness and physical health to ensure compliance with relevant laws and fitness/physical health priorities
We are looking for a strategic leader who:
- Is in a Chief/Deputy/Assistant Fire Officer or Area Manager role (or equivalent), with lead responsibility for fitness/physical health in their FRS
- Has experience of engaging at a national level with multiple stakeholders and the wider industry sector.
- Has a good understanding of the PCL strategic plan, fitness and physical health-related priorities, and current challenges facing the UK FRS workforce
- Demonstrates a good understanding of the issues and differences in approach required across the UK’s devolved nations
- Is a great communicator, who conveys a strong commitment towards fitness and physical health matters in UK FRS
- Has previous experience of bringing partners together to achieve a common goal
