Background:
NFCC are looking to recruit an individual to the role of Modern Fuels and Energy Technologies Lead. The position sits under NFCCs ‘operational infrastructure and transportation group’ lead by Matt Deadman which reports to NFCC’s Operational Preparedness Response and Resilience (OPRR) committee, with Committee Chair: John Roberts.
In the short term, this role will focus on the challenges presented by lithium-ion batteries and their use in transport. In the longer term, the role holder will be required to coordinate activity relating to other types of modern fuels, such as hydrogen. The role holder will work closely with the Alternative Fuels and Energy Systems Lead officer (Phil Clark – TWFRS). The AFES lead is responsible for coordinating activities to do with energy storage (such as battery energy storage systems) but there is synergies between the two roles.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Have a strong and consistent voice on the issues of modern fuels.
- Actively engage in our multi-agency approach to promote NFCC’s strategy to strengthen the guidance and activity in this area.
- Work with FRS and partners to produce and update relevant guidance, position statements and resources to assist in good practice.
The role involves:
- Leading on matters relating to Modern Fuels and Energy Technologies.
- Working with relevant external organisations to develop and maintain relationships with FRSs at a strategic level.
- Liaising with agencies and regulators where appropriate to ensure compliance.
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with other NFCC Leads on related topics.
- Coordinating activity across the sector to improve knowledge and understanding of the hazards and risks of modern fuels, as well as identifying opportunities to develop operational capabilities in this area.
We are looking for a strategic manager who has:
- Experience of engaging at a strategic level across stakeholders, including partner agencies, government departments, and industry.
- A great communicator, who has a real determination to drive improvements in the sector’s understanding of modern fuels.
- An understanding of the issues associated with modern fuels and their use in transport.
- Has previous experience of bringing partners together to achieve a common goal.
