NFCC position on Culture in Fire and Rescue Services
As the National Fire Chiefs Council, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the Core Code of Ethics and in supporting fire and rescue services to be safe, open and inclusive workplaces that are free from bullying, harassment and discrimination, abuse and harm. We want to acknowledge all those colleagues who continue to speak out courageously in relation to their own experiences. It is important that we continue to listen to their voices and learn from their experiences. All UK fire and rescue services now have independent reporting lines in place to support confidential reporting to help ensure that we have positive and professional places to work, providing the best possible service to the public that inspires confidence and trust.
Culture and inclusion remains a critical priority for NFCC and we will continue to build on the work of the NFCC Culture Action Plan. This includes establishing a new lived experience forum that will meet to help shape and inform NFCC’s work moving forward and, most importantly, to ensure that the voices of those who have spoken about their experiences remain paramount and foremost in our thinking to drive improvement in the sector.
