Remembrance Sunday

Mark Hardingham, Chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council, will today lay a wreath at the National Service of Remembrance on behalf of the civilian services.

 

Mark Hardingham said:

“I will be commemorating and honouring those who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. Their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

“I will also be paying tribute to the vital contribution made by the emergency services, and other civilian services, in times of conflict, and remembering those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism”.

 

Representatives from fire and rescue services across the country will also be attending the National Service of Remembrance.

Wayne Bowcock, Chief Fire Officer of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service will be the commander of this year’s civilian services contingent detachment.

He will be supported by Area Manager Scott Hurford (Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service) who will lead one of the detachments.

This makes up a quarter of the static guard of honour around the Cenotaph, alongside the Army, opposite the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy detachments.

32 fire cadets from across the country will also be taking part in the parade led by Chief Fire Officer Mark Baxter (Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service).
