Fire Cadets
What is Fire Cadets?
Fire Cadets is a uniformed youth organisation supported nationally by NFCC and run by individual fire and rescue services. Fire Cadets is committed to helping young people aged 13-17 years old to stay safe, be healthy, resilient and active within their community. Fire Cadets offers a safe space, positive challenges and opportunities for young people to meet their full potential.
Fire Cadets Activities
Fire Cadets typically meet weekly in local fire stations, learning practical skills used by the fire and rescue service in a safe and supportive environment.
- Fire service drills: hose running, ladder pitching, search and rescue, breathing apparatus
- Safety awareness: home fire safety, road safety and water safety, first aid and CPR
- Citizenship: charity fundraising and social action activities
- Transferable skills: team-working, problem-solving, communication and leadership
The UK Fire Cadets syllabus is designed to build confidence, resilience, and transferable skills that support future education and employment. The syllabus comprises Fire Cadets Award One and Fire Cadets Award Two, both designed to give young people an insight into the fire and rescue service and develop their knowledge and understanding of community safety and well-being.
Fire Cadets have opportunities to gain awards and qualifications including Duke of Edinburgh, Level 2 Fire and Rescue Service in the Community and Duke of Cornwall.
