Safeguarding

To safeguard our communities, our people, and our organisation through efficient and effective safeguarding practice.

Safeguarding means protecting people’s health, wellbeing, and human rights, enabling them to live free from harm and abuse.

National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people, and adults, recognising that the protection and safety of vulnerable individuals is paramount. One of our key aims is to reduce community risk and vulnerability through supporting fire and rescue services in prevention, protection, and response and in the development of their community risk management plans.

Safeguarding is a whole organisational duty and must be embedded within both the internal and external communities. NFCC are fully committed to the legal and moral duties that ensure safeguarding is practiced well and that our organisational culture fully compasses safeguarding.

NFCC Safeguarding Board enables Fire and Rescue Services (FRS) to meet their safeguarding duties by producing a range of associated guidance, risk assessments and training to enable FRSs to work towards achieving the Safeguarding Fire Standard and support implementation of any legislative change.
