NFCC Health, Safety & Wellbeing Conference 2026

19–21 January | Park Regis Hotel, Birmingham  

The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is pleased to announce its first Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Conference, bringing together key themes and priorities for the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) into one unified event. 

This conference is designed to: 

  • Align sector-wide strategies across health, safety, and wellbeing. 
  • Reduce FRS budget pressures by consolidating previously separate events. 
  • Foster collaboration, innovation, and leadership across the FRS. 

The conference will begin at 1pm on 19th (registration and networking available from 11.30am) and will run through to lunchtime on 21st. There will be a range of different ticket options available, so attendees are able to choose whether to attend the whole event or pick days with specific subject areas.  

Conference Programme Highlights 

Day 1/2: Health & Wellbeing 

  • NFCC PCL Updates including:
  • Launch of the NFCC Suicide prevention toolkit.
  • Fit for Duty screening tool.
  • Fire Fighters Charity: support services, case studies, and partnership opportunities.  
  • The Importance of nutrition in supporting wellbeing.  
  • Health, Safety and Wellbeing from a leadership lens – how do leaders support and manage wellbeing?
  • Managing Physical fitness and standards and implementation across services.  
  • Validity, Reliability and Usability of Personal Heat Stress Monitors.

Day 2/3: Health & Safety 

  • Working Time: shift pattern research, fatigue management, and tech-based monitoring.  
  • PPE & RPE: innovations, fit testing, and procurement challenges. 
  • Contaminants: NFCC workstream updates, incident case studies, and research findings. 
  • Human Behaviour: behavioural science and contamination compliance. 
  • Safed: assurance models and sector support. 
  • FRIC: risk management tools and sector-wide profiles. 
  • HSE: future inspection priorities and engagement strategy.
