What is an Arson Reduction Coordinator?

The Role of the Arson Reduction Coordinator has three main areas of responsibility:

• Managing the Fire Safety Intervention Scheme.
• Working within our Education team to deliver education to reduce the risk of fire play / fire setting.
• Working with partners and stakeholders to reduce wildfires and deliberate fires.

You will need to be confident working with vulnerable children and young people who are undertaking risky behaviours, working with compassion, and understanding whilst ensuring they understand the potential consequences of their actions.

Many of the children referred are vulnerable teenagers, however we do work with younger children and currently adults up to 25 with special educational needs.

You need to be organised with your time and documents, making sure that all referrals and case notes are kept secure in line with GDPR. You will need to be confident talking to a wide range and size of audiences, such as individual children and young people, parents/carers, professionals, delivering assemblies and classroom activities, attending community events and talking to the public. You will need to represent the team and Service and share information with key stakeholders and partners at both formal and informal meetings.

As well as being one of the largest combined Fire and Rescue Services in the country we are also one of the top performing. In February 2022, inspectors from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) looked closely at our Service and graded us as ‘Good’, ‘Outstanding’, and ‘Good’ across the three inspection pillars of Effectiveness, Efficiency and People.

We offer a wide range of employee benefits and strive to ensure that staff are valued and rewarded. For example, we offer a flexi time scheme, Local Government Pension Scheme, a generous annual leave allowance, a variety of family friendly schemes and health & well-being services.

As the Arson Reduction Coordinator in our Prevention department, you will:
• Manage the Fire Safety Intervention Scheme, including allocation and management of cases to advisors as well as delivering interventions yourself.
• Research best practice and develop methods of interventions and share with Advisors.
• Work with the Education Manager to develop resources and techniques for arson, risk behaviours and wildfire prevention.
• Deliver arson and wildfire reduction education sessions as required.
• Support collaboration opportunities with the relevant stakeholders and partner organisations to support arson, risky behaviours, and wildfire prevention.

What makes you our ideal person?
